Area Research Groups

Italian Area Research Group Also know as "Pursuing Our Italian Names Together", Chapter 22, (POINT), also known as the Italian Community Center Italian Family History Club.

Our WEBSITE. The website includes the surname list, calendar of meetings and the most recent meeting minutes.

Pursuing Our Italian Names Together, Chapter 22, The Italian Area Interest Group, has set its calendar for 2015. The meetings will take place at the Italian Community Center, 631 E Chicago Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. and concluding with the formal meeting at noon.

We welcome anyone with an interest in Italian family history. Please feel free to bring guests. If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact George Koleas or by calling (262) 251-7216 after 7:00 p.m.


The Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah has a Basic Italian Research online class. The class takes 58 minutes and covers the basic methods and key resources to start your family history. Go to: familysearch.org Choose Italy Research.

Interest has been expressed for: Mexican Area Research Group

If you are interested in doing Mexican and Mexican American genealogy research and would like to share resources and discuss problems, then maybe you would like to participate in a Mexican Area Research Group.

A Czech Area Interest Group is now being formed. If you have an interest in Czech genealogy, please contact Susan Chapman for more information.

Milwaukee now has a Czech/Slovak Genealogy Group, and Sokol Milwaukee held two meetings in the Spring of 2014, in April and May. After taking the Summer off, a third meeting will be held in late August or September. If you wish to attend the next meeting (date and place TBA) please send an email with your name and research needs to Sokol Milwaukee. Everyone is welcome.

Area Research Groups
If you have a particular interest or expertise in doing research for a particular ethnic group and would like to discuss problems and share resources specific to that nationality, then maybe you would like to participate in an area research group.


Polish Area Research Group Unfortunately, due to lack of interest the Polish Area Research Group has disbanded for now.



Beginner Genealogy Classes

Are you interested in starting to research your family tree? Or have you started, but aren't making as much progress as you'd like? Milwaukee County Genealogical Society can help with FREE Beginner Genealogical Classes which starts every September. This link will take you to a page with more specific information on dates and times with links to printable forms.


**Note: If the Milwaukee Public Schools close because of inclement weather, Friday meetings and Saturday classes will be canceled.
